It is exciting times in Faringdon, Oxfordshire as GSC Estates commences development of Phase 2 of Faringdon Park, next to the existing Waitrose, Aldi and Costa scheme that GSC Estates completed in 2017.
The new development, funded by Aviva Investors, will consist of a 3 storey scheme with a 74 room Travelodge hotel above a 15,000 sq ft Home Bargains store. Travelodge is the UK’s first budget hotel brand and currently operates 574 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

Faringdon Oxford Travelodge is our eighth hotel in Oxfordshire and will feature our premium economy rooms, SuperRooms and our onsite restaurant, called ‘The Bar Café. The hotel is ideally located to offer business and leisure travellers a great value base whilst visiting the area. Travelodge is known in the development world for its flexibility and willingness to operate in mixed-use schemes as this one . We are therefore looking forward to operating with Home Bargains and provide as always our customers with excellent amenities.’’
The ground breaking ceremony marking the commencement of construction took place on Thursday 11th July 2019, when the Mayor of Faringdon, Cllr Mike Wise, the Deputy Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, Cllr Judith Heathcoat (who is also County Councillor for the Faringdon Division) broke the ground at the site, marking the commencement of construction. The development programme targets completion in July of next year.
Phase 2 is being built by Soldi, for GSC Estates, who are funded by Aviva Investors (who also own the existing Waitrose, Aldi and Costa) and will create a scheme that will generate circa 40 full and part time jobs.
Cllr Bethia Thomas, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration at Vale of White Horse District Council commented: “The new administration at the Vale wants to see economic growth in these challenging times. We welcome the opportunities this development brings to Faringdon. We’re particularly pleased that funds raised from the developer will be able to go into investment in the town centre. The hotel brings an additional 40 new jobs on top of the new shops that have moved in already – this will attract more vistiors to enjoy Faringdon.”
Cllr Heathcoat commented: “In these uncertain economic times I am so delighted that Faringdon, has another National First with a new purpose built Travelodge and Home Bargains co locating together on the same site with ample shared customer parking . It is great to see the creation of further hotel facilities, hopefully increasing Faringdon’s attractiveness to new SME businesses that the Town wants to attract to drive commerce, increase employment, and spread prosperity, ”
Faringdon’s Town Mayor, Mike Wise, added: “It’s really exciting to see another first for Faringdon further underlining Faringdon’s importance as a destination. The Town is rapidly growing and new facilities such as this gives more reason for businesses to really consider relocating to our Town. I look forward to watching this development take shape and look forward to coming back here in 12 months time to see it open.”
